El nuevo Secretario General expresó que “queremos que ninguna voz ni ningún derecho de los que están en esta sala sean acallados”, así como que “como regla general impulsaremos la lógica de la no discriminación, nuestro lema es 'más derechos para más personas" y que "cualquier forma de discriminación, cada derecho no respetado, afecta a las Américas".
Ante estas declaraciones los grupos antiderechos reaccionaron de manera agresiva e irrespetuosa, vociferando y abucheando al Secretario General.
La primera intervención de la sociedad civil en el diálogo la tuvo el activista gay Yonatan Matheus de la organización Venezuela Diversa quien destacó la importancia de que los estados miembros de la OEA cumplan con su obligación de garantizar los derechos de las personas LGBTI en la region, sin injerencia de posturas ideológicas partidarias y confesionales que se oponen a la inclusion social y al ejercicio pleno de derechos de esta población y demás grupos vulnerables en las Américas.
Iren Rotela, activista trans paraguaya enfatizó la necesidad de hacer efectivo el derecho a la igualdad y no discriminación garantizando acciones afirmativas frente a grupos y poblaciones históricamente excluidos.
En la segunda parte de la jornada la sociedad civil presentó las recomendaciones trabajadas el día anterior sobre democracia, derechos humanos, seguridad multidimencional y desarrollo integral enmarcado en el tema central de la Asamblea que es "Presente y futuro de la OEA".
Si bien los voceros simplemente debían leer los textos consensuados por los grupos temáticos, en un episodio lamentable el vocero del grupo temático sobre Derechos Humanos leyó de manera arbitraria, censurando los puntos con los que no estaba de acuerdo y agregando párrafos que no habían sido discutidos. Además decidió utilizar este espacio para atacar de manera personal al candidato a la Corte Interamericana Eugenio Zaffaroni, violando los acuerdos colectivos previos en favor de sus propios intereses ideológicos y profesionales.
Ante las intervenciones de los delegados gubernamentales que defendieron los avances en derechos LGBT y contra la discriminación en la región, nuevamente los y las activistas antiderechos vociferaron y agraviaron a los y las representantes.
Denunciamos estos métodos de violencia ideológica y de falsa representación de la realidad que no pertenecen a un espacio de trabajo de la sociedad civil, sino al ejercicio del poder al estilo de las dictaduras militares. La Coalición LGBTTTI se mantendrá vigilante para garantizar que estos comportamientos no se vuelvan a repetir.
The new Secretary General said "we want no voice nor any rights of anyone in this room to be silenced". He added that "as a general rule we will promote the logic of non-discrimination, our motto is 'More rights for more people'" and that "any form of discrimination, every right that is not respected, affects the Americas."
To these statements, anti-rights groups in the room reacted aggressively and disrespectfully, shouting and booing the Secretary General.
The first civil society member to take the floor in the dialogue was gay activist Yonatan Matheus, a member of Venezuela Diversa, who highlighted "The importance of the OAS member states fulfillment of their obligation to guarantee the rights of LGBTI people in the region, without interference of partisan ideological and confessional positions that oppose social inclusion and full exercise of rights of this and other vulnerable groups in the Americas".
Iren Rotela, Paraguayan trans activist emphasized the need to implement the right to equality and affirmative action to ensure non-discrimination against groups and historically excluded populations.
In the second part of the day, the civil society presented the recommendations prepared on the previous day on Democracy, Human Rights, Multidimensional Security and Integral Development, under the framework of the central topic of the Assembly: "Present and Future of the OAS"
Spokespeople only had to read the texts agreed by the thematic workgroups. However, In a shameful episode, the spokesman of the Human Rights workgroup performed an arbitrary reading, censoring the points he disagreed with and adding paragraphs that had not been discussed. He also decided to use this time to personally attack the candidate for the Inter-American Court Eugenio Zaffaroni, violating previous collective agreements favoring his own ideological and professional interests.
The interventions of government representatives who defended advances in LGBT rights and in the fight against discrimination in the region, again faced the rage of anti-rights activists, who yelled and wronged the representatives.
We denounce these methods of ideological violence and misrepresentation of reality that do not belong to a civil society working space, but to the exercise of power of military dictatorships. The LGBTTTI Coalition will remain vigilant to ensure that such behavior is not repeated.
